Synopsis Origin of how puny Caspar Milquetoast became a "fighting fury on the side of freedom" during World War 2. Story of how Dave Donovan, in the hospital to have his tonsils out, instead has "ultra-strong mechanical arms, a leg, a transistorized headset, and Titanium arches" installed when he's mistaken for the hand-picked soldier intended for the experiment. The program was partly backed by "The Crusading Crew" whose "pulsating eighth issue" is "now on sale!" Flashback details how "an average Joe" laid up in the hospital, wanting to do something for his country, deliberately switches places with "Colonel Adam" who was meant for the surgery that would turn him into a super-hero. Story of how orphan draft-dodging hippie Brett Kowalski was taken against his will and subjected to the "Project Perfect Patriot" experiment, then forced to work for the U.S. Government. Story describes that "Caspar Milquetoast" never really existed, and Mister U.S. was really always a robot, brainwashed into thinking it had once been human.
