Comic Book Checklists
Conan comes full circle! After eighteen years, it makes a return to Marvel, its original U.S. publisher. Creator Jason Aaron (Thor, Doctor Strange) along with artist Mahmud Asrar (All-New X-Men) will be at the helm, and it is quite apparent the project is in the right hands. When asked about the upcoming project, writer Jason Aaron had this to say:
"I've literally been preparing for this job since I was 13 and discovered my first Robert E. Howard, Conan paperback in a used bookstore in my little hometown of Jasper, Alabama. I devoured every Howard book I could find after that, and I've been making up Conan stories in my head ever since."
With a massive following that spans nearly 100 years, Conan’s Marvel-ous return will no doubt be a massive win. Conan The Barbarian #1 hits shelves on January 2nd, 2019.
The golden age of the Marvel Universe returns! Creators Kurt Busiek and Alex Ross will be marking the 25th anniversary of the groundbreaking Marvels series with Marvels: Annotated #1. Set in 1939, photojournalist Phil Sheldon will show readers a fresh perspective on superheroes. Through his eyes you will see epic (and somewhat terrifying) clashes like Namor: The Submariner and The Original Human Torch. Behold the pride and patriotism that America felt when the one and only Captain America made his world changing first appearance. You won't want to miss this everyman’s look back on classic battles and heroes. Marvels: Annotated #1 hits shelves on February 13, 2019.
From Eisner Award-winning creator Saladin Ahmed (Black Bolt, Exiles) and artist Javier Garron (Ant-Man, Inferno) comes Miles Morales: Spider-Man #1. MM:SM#1 is a refreshing, down-to-earth look at Miles Morales and the everyday challenges that accompany being a teenager: social hierarchies, parents and their expectations, schoolwork/homework, and on. On top of that, Miles Morales shoulders the responsibilities of being Spider-Man, fighting enemies like Rhino, a new Iron-Spider, and a maniacal plethora of equally formidable “Spidey foes”.
"Part of what we love about Spider-Man is all the crap he goes through. And Miles will be dealing with some dark realities of our modern world. But I also want this book to have a bright thread running through it, because what we really love about Spider-Man is that he keeps us smiling no matter how grim things seem." -Saladin Ahmed
Miles Morales: Spider-Man #1 hits shelves on December 12th, 2018.
Otto Octavius returns to once again prove that he is the superior superhero in Superior Spider-Man #1. The series will take place following the events of DEATH NO MORE and SECRET WARS and will once again see what happens when Otto--supervillain and Spider-Man foe--finds redemption in a completely shocking and groundbreaking way. With the amazing writing of Christos Gage and the art of the talented Mike Hawthorne, fans everywhere are completely abuzz with excitement for the return of the “Superior one.” What happens when a supervillain’s consciousness is placed in a perfect clone of Peter Parker (Spider-Man) and given a fresh start? Check out Superior Spider-Man #1 when it hits shelves on December 26th, 2018 to find out!
Creator Kelly Thompson, along with artist Carmen Carnero, will be continuing the incredible adventures of Carol Danvers as Captain Marvel, marking 50 years since the character’s introduction. The fan favorite will be finding her way back to New York City to reconnect with old friends like Iron Man and her best friend Spider-Woman. You can count on some out-of-this-world adventures along with a bit of romance to round it all off, making an amazing story. Captain Marvel #1 will be hitting shelves on January 9th, 2019.
With the passing of the industry’s most beloved legend, Stan Lee, Marvel will be commemorating his life with a special trade dress on twenty-nine titles. Starting in December and running through January, fans will be able to purchase tributes to Lee from their favorite series. Here is the list of issues that will get the commemorative treatment:
The Uncanny X-Men return in a new weekly, 10-part series, ominously titled “Disassembled.” Fans will not want to miss how creative team Matthew Rosenberg, Kelly Thompson, Ed Brisson, Mahmud Asrar, R.B. Silva, Yildiray Cinar and Pete Perez will take everyone’s favorite mutants into a whole new and refreshing realm. Expect a mind blowing cover from artist Leinil Francis Yu in his signature style. Uncanny X-Men #1 will hit shelves on November 14th.
The creator and artist duo Scott Snyder and Jock, respectively, return with The Batman Who Laughs #1. The scene is set in a beautifully macabre world where Batman will face a twisted and sinister version of… himself: a gun obsessed, harbinger of Doom who appears quite capable of handling whatever is thrown (or shot) his way. Think of a cross between The Batman and The Punisher, one that got into guns after shooting this world’s version of Joe Chill.
Creator Scott Snyder had this to say:
It's another one of Batman's worst nightmares. This is like Punisher Batman, but it's also Bruce Wayne, which makes him terrifying...he's rich, he has access to everything. He's the deadliest Dark Knight ever and he's coming to the DC Universe as a henchman of the Batman who Laughs.
