There is nothing quite as exciting as a new comic book shop. The smell of the new books beckoning from the shelves, waiting to be bought and added to our collections. The shining busts of our favorite heroes or villains saying “wouldn't we look awesome on your shelf at home!”. Bargain bins busting with finds that will help complete that special series or spark a new interest. But most importantly, it is the store owners and operators that set the tone for your experience. Fortunately, we have good news for comic collectors in the Daytona, FL area because Marco Falletta (owner of Gotham City Pizza) and Cory Pommell (administrator of The Collectors Corner Facebook group) have teamed up to open Gotham’s Finest Comics. Nate from Comic Burst was able to sit down with Marco (MF) and Cory (CP) to find out what is in store for collectors.
The first family of comics returns in Marvel’s Fantastic Four #1! Written by Dan Slott with art by Sara Pichelli, it is expected to have a list of mind-blowing variants from artists like Artgerm, Alex Ross, George Perez and Scottie Young. The long-awaited return of Marvel's most fantastic family will absolutely be one of comic's biggest events this summer. It goes without saying that if you are picking up only one Marvel title this month, Fantastic Four #1 should be it!
After nearly ten years of incredible storytelling and character development, The Amazing Spider-Man’s Dan Slott is passing on the reins to one of Marvel's biggest and most recognizable characters. In March 2018 it was announced Nick Spence would take over creative responsibilities as part of the “Fresh Start” initiative. Editor-in-Chief C.B. Cebulski said “This new #1, with jaw-dropping art by Ryan Ottley and Laura Martin, is not only a perfect jumping-on point for new readers–it builds on everything Dan’s been doing for the past ten years and seamlessly continues the adventures of everyone's favorite wall-crawler! Amazing Spider-Man is one of our flagships titles, steering the Marvel Universe in an exciting new direction, perfect for readers new and old.” You can find Nick Spencer’s The Amazing Spider-Man #1 on sale July 2018.
Batman and Catwoman say “I do" in DC’s Batman #50, the culmination to one of the longest running on-again, off-again “romances” in comic book history. The relationship between Selina Kyle and Bruce Wayne began in Batman’s first solo series, where Catwoman was introduced in Batman #1 during the spring of 1940, along with The Joker and Hugo Strange. She served as more of an antagonist than a true villain like Joker, with her motivations more led by greed than evil or chaos, though this did not stop her from holding her own against Batman or whomever got in her path.
Despite varying artists and writers throughout the years, each interaction of Batman and Catwoman was a subtle mixture of confrontation and flirtation. Finally, over 75 years later, “The Bat and The Cat” are finally tying the knot and fans have plenty to celebrate. Expect not only the happy union of Bruce and Selina in Batman #50, but also over 20 variants (and counting) from an all-star lineup of artists like Tyler Kirkham, Francesco Mattina, Frank Cho, and many more. Batman #50 is an unforgettable and momentous occasion in comic book history!
There are few people in the world that can claim success as a comic book artist, and even fewer that are fan favorites, with artwork featured on both DC and Marvel covers. Stanley Lau, alias Artgerm, is one such artist, respected by peers and fans alike. With iconic imagery of strong, powerful females and an extraordinary eye for detail, Stanley Lau is a force in the industry. Between Imaginary Friends Studios (his art studio), a t-shirt design business, and cranking out jaw-dropping variants for “The Big Two", Mr. Lau is an incredibly busy man. Luckily, Comic Burst's Nathan Liberty was given a rare and exciting opportunity to speak with the one and only Artgerm.

Marvel Comics has been “seeing red" with their smash hit story arc GO DOWN SWINGING, which comes to a shocking conclusion in Amazing Spider-Man #800 (ASM #800). Norman Osborn and the Carnage Symbiote have merged, combining their villainous ways into the twisted and well-received Red Goblin. But it gets so much better than that! Fans will have even more to celebrate with the incredible artistic return of John Romita Sr. for what's shaping up to be one of the biggest Peter Parker and Norman Osborn stories of all time. With an incredible team of creators to back it, Marvel is keeping fans on the edge of their seats waiting for the release of The Amazing Spider-Man #800 at the end of May.
Few comic book creators could be mistaken as a member of a heavy metal band, on stage thrashing to the screams of adoring fans. Brian Pulido, however, is one. As the creator of Lady Death, amongst many others, and owner/operator of Coffin Comics, Brian is more rock and roll than any of us could hope to be in our most fevered dreams. With an incredible energy that his loyal and die-hard fans find contagious, Brian has been killing it on the independent scene since the early 90s, especially with the long-lived character Lady Death. Today Coffin Comics’s success is evident in the rumors of a TV series for La Muerta and the many successful Kickstarter campaigns. Comic Burst’s Nathan Liberty was fortunate to find time on Brian’s schedule to discuss music, comics, and some exciting things to come.
